Description

Aaah... I know I always talk about metal and construction, it seems lately I haven't been able to fetch any time in the shop, and now it's summertime. Our CNCs were booked pretty much around the clock until the very end, and I wasn't able to get any time on them. Well, you know how it goes, stuff happens. I'll make something sooner or later, the itch is killing me.

Anyways, this is a new saber, designed from the ground up. No existing parts or templates were used, not even for the buttons. The construction is done in four pieces, emitter, upper body, lower body, and pommel. The upper body and pommel cap feature male threads, and the lower body and emitter feature female threads for easy assembly.

Although I designed this one with ease of manufacture in mind, right down to the design features I implemented (ie: no profiles or sketches were used in the construction of the model itself), I designed it as a simple hero or action prop, not a light up model. As a result, I had a lot more freedom for design, and although of course I'll always pay attention to durability, without having to worry about circuitry and batteries taking up the insides, I was able to design it along slimmer, more elegant lines, although I wanted to keep things simple this time. You may notice that the emitter was loosely based on Darth Maul's.

This saber design has not been named. I just felt like designing something.

Rendered in Autodesk Inventor 2009. Model geometry constructed in Siemens PLM Unigraphics NX 6.
