hey dave,
i really liked the inventor render u did of the skateboard truck. i am thinking of also attempting to create a skateboard truck on inventor, and was wondering if u could give me some help. because the shape is so curvy im a bit unsure on how to start. any help would be appreciated greatly.

Hey there,

I used a pair of profiles in Sketcher, one from the side view, one from the front, and extruded them both into each other using the option to keep only the volume that was common to both of them. This gave me the basic "T" shape of the truck. From there, it was a matter of sweeps and other profiles along with lots of edge blending, gradually adding and subtracting more pieces until I found something I liked.

Since I use NX to do the models, and only use Inventor to do the renderings (I move them from application to application as .STEP203 files), the options NX gets are somewhat different in application but they serve a similar purpose in practice.

Hope this helps.

Have you ever used OpenVMS I64? Most of the Hobbyist crowd still seems to run VAX and Alpha hardware, or emulate it.

Unfortunately no. Most of the IA64 systems are more expensive and I don't have that kind of money to throw around at the moment. Depending on how things go I may have a MicroVAX II coming my way that I might be able to restore, though.
